David Apaflo is one of Nigeria’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) finest specialists. With a first class degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and being alumnus of the prestigious Kings College Lagos, he is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
David has extensive experience consulting for State Governments like Lagos State, Kwara State, Ogun State, Osun State and Oyo State where he has been at the forefront of helping states increase their IGR in the face of dwindling allocations from the Federal Government of Nigeria. From working with governments to create autonomous Internal Revenue Services to spearheading the restructuring and creation of departments therein, David has also helped states through tax audits having participated in over 500 tax audits over the span of his career.
David has also served as adviser to corporate entities on crafting tax efficient strategies helping them with compliance challenges and also helping these companies resolve nagging tax issues. David has constantly sought for more inclusion of tax as a key topic for executive decision making guiding companies in navigating this landscape.
In 2013, David founded Shelze Professional Services a company which offers a wide range of financial services with a core focus on tax consulting. Prior to starting Shelze Consulting, he worked with top brands like GTBank, Vetiva & ARM in the financial services industry in Nigeria. In 2013, David was nominated as one of Africa’s Under-35 entrepreneurs to watch out for.
More recently, he also founded David Apaflo & Co (Chartered Accountants) which is a firm licensed by the Public Practice Section of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria to carry out statutory audits of companies.
David has two books which are soon to be published on the broad subject of taxation. These books are “Tax Primer” and “50 Challenging Tax Questions”. David shares his unique insights and opinions on his blog www.davidapaflo.com and is a columnist with Nigeria's premier online career portal www.jarushub.com with a couple of his write-ups scoring over 13,000 views on Nigeria's most popular online forum Nairaland.
David speaks at various events on the topic of leadership and has spoken at several events as a panellist or keynote speaker. David recently spoke at a TEDx event on Managing Risks.
He serves as the Board Secretary of Help Others Win Charity Foundation, an NGO dedicated towards improving the quality of education in Africa.
